Extrusion foaming is a continuous, quick, simple, and versatile technique to fabricate foamed products at industrial scale. Among others, extrusion foaming allows the production of foamed tubes, pipes, frames, or sheets from a large variety of polymer matrices. This technology can be applied to the production of both high and low-density foamed parts.
Currently, the industry is facing several challenges related to foams’ production through an extrusion foaming process. Some of these challenges are promoted by the new environmental regulations, the need to develop enhanced products, or the demand for tailored materials for each application, among other factors.
During the last years, we have designed some strategies to deal with these challenges. The proposed action lines are based on a deep understanding of the foaming mechanisms that occur during the fabrication of foams by extrusion. This webinar is focused on analyzing these approaches both from a theoretical and an applied perspective. Furthermore, the webinar presents some examples of cases studied where this methodology was successfully used to overcome limitations and tune the properties of foam parts produced by extrusion foaming.
